The regulation, legalization, and taxation of marijuana would benefit the state of Rhode Island in many ways. The legalization of marijuana would allow law enforcement agencies to focus their time and efforts on other criminal matters. Those residents of the state of Rhode Island who cultivate, sell, and use marijuana would no longer have to worry about possible criminal prosecution. Another way in which the legalization of marijuana would benefit the state is through the increased tourism that would result from the passage of such a measure. Being the first (or one of the first) in the north east to legalize marijuana would allow Rhode Island’s culinary and hospitality industries to boom and flourish. The taxation of legal marijuana would also bring increased revenue in to the state’s coffers. The funds could then be used to support education and healthcare in our state.
